As a makeup guru, you have to be able to make good reviews on different makeup brands, so I guess you would have to try them to make a credible review about the product. Unfortunately, I am not as open to just trying any product on my face since I am afraid of breaking out and it's really not a pretty sight when I do. When it comes to my foundation or face powder, I usually stick to the brand that my face has gotten used to over the years. Which is why I turn to my YouTube gurus when it comes to sharing reviews on topics like this to my friends (in this case, to help my cousin decide which brand to get for her everyday face powder)
Not that I am saying I am a makeup guru. My Guru status is reserved for family and really close friends! Hahahaha! I am just an ordinary girl who get by with simple practical makeup tips which I readily share to my cousins and friends as we all explore makeup together! Hahahaha! Just had to make that disclaimer.
So just to share my face routine since we're already talking about it, here are some products I use and I will mention some that I have used in the past that also works well for my skin. At the end of this entry, I will post a nice on-the-go foundation review from one of my favorite YouTube Gurus, Michelle Phan.
First, I make sure I moisturize and protect my skin from harmful UV rays before I step out of the house. Please note that when I stay home, I don't put on any makeup on my face, it's not like I need it to cook right? Remember, I have oily skin and very prone to break outs. I need something that will not make mys kin too oily and something non-comedogenic. The best products for my face would be:
- This gel-looking sunscreen for the face that I get from my Dermatologist in the Philippines. It's good for my oily skin since it gets absorbed by my face well and dries a matte finish. But since I have not seen my Dermatologist for a long time now...
- I started using Neutrogena Sunblock, Ultra-Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 45 (I also use the SPF 75 and 80) , again, gives my skin a matte finish. Not too slippery when you apply, gets absorbed fast. Oh and it's also waterproof.
- I have also tried using the Eucerin Everyday Protection Face Lotion in SPF30 which I think is ideal for me during the winter since it really gives my skin the moisture it needs. I never leave the house without my sunscreen! :)

I do not use face powders. When I go out I use my MAC Studio Fix, either the compact one (C4) or the liquid one (NC40). I usually use the liquid first then top it with the powder one. These products give me coverage I need and at the same time, it doesn't feel too heavy on my skin.

Oh the liquid one has SPF15, nice huh? :)
And to cover some unwanted spots and to brighten my puffy eyes since as most of you know my irregular sleeping habit, I use Make Up For Ever Concealer 5 Camouflage Cream Palette #1.
Not to mention of course my new love, the ever reliable MAC 187 brush! Love it!
And to give me that nice dewy look, I use the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish (Medium Dark) to also set everything. :)
I learned about most of the products here from MakeUpGeek on YouTube. I tried it and so far, I wasn't disappointed. ;)
Now as promised, here's the video review of Michelle Phan on YouTube on Foundations. I like her because first, she's also Asian so she knows more or less what works for Asian skin. MakeUpGeek is caucasian so most of the products she recommends may not work well for Asian skin, even some techniques on eye makeup. Asians are not known for having defined creases so I turn to Asian girls for additional tutorials.
On choosing the best powder/foundation, I would just like to quote Michelle that price really shouldn't matter. It doesn't necessarily mean that if you buy the more expensive one it will work well for you or just because it's drugstore bought, it's not good. On this review, she will be reviewing drugstore bought brands, hope this helps! Oh and it's a 2-part video. :)
